The responsibility of the journalists is growing; the rescue of journalism is a national issue and it may have to be done with non-market means

“The truth is not the least common short between two lies, so it is important that everyone carefully chooses their sources of information. The presence of a lot of distorted data, biased comments, the predominance of the emotional over the rational, and the shape over the content are part of the Facebook effects on society that make journalistic work even more responsible, ” said Boyko Vassilev, host of the program/television show “Panorama” and Chief  Producer of “Current Programs” of the Bulgarian National Television, during the traditional meeting of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria (CWBB), with outstanding figures from the country and abroad. “Saving journalism is a national matter and it may have to be done with non-market means”, the journalist added.

At the beginning of the new school year, Boyko Vassilev got the support of the ladies that good education is of paramount importance  for technology to bring benefits rather than to misinform. “In a world where we are surrounded by devices, we need to guarantee a few minutes a day for thinking. Including reading a book”, advised Boyko Vassilev.

In this regard, the Chairwoman of the Executive Board of the Council, Dr. Engineer Boryana Manolova, Chief  Executive Officer of  Siemens Bulgaria, reminded the educational initiatives that the Council of Women has been developing for several years. Early next week, the fourth edition of the annual Leadership Academy will be officially launched. Within the framework of the program, 48 ladies of small and medium business or middle management will have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through specially developed trainings. At the same time, the Women’s Council is also developing a National Internship Initiative targeting the youngest. The award ceremony for the winners of this year’s edition will take place in October. Among the awards in the competition are visits and internships in companies members of the Council, career counseling  from leading HR managers, vouchers and others, and the first-prize-winner will receive an invitation from the patron of the initiative Eva Maydell to visit the European Parliament in Brussels.

During the discussion the participants outlined the other major challenges that social media brings to both journalism and  society. “Because of  Facebook, the original newspaper, made from paper, is dying and the model of truth is no longer working”, Vassilev said. He reminded that years ago, every fact submitted by a journalist was thoroughly checked, while the facts are now disappearing from journalism. In addition, because of  the availability of social networks, the intermediary institution disappears gradually in communication and in many other spheres.

The ladies from the Council have used the opportunity to remind that they want to see the business presented with good practices in the editorial content of the media, not just in the advertising blocks. Bulgarians need to get acquainted with the business in the country and see their social responsibility with specific names, the Council members are categorical.
