Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff became an honorary member of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria.
She received a special trophy and a certificate of honorary membership from the Board Chair of the Council of Women in Business Ms. Boryana Manolova during this year’s Global Summit of Women, which took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The conference was held under the patronage of Dilma Rousseff.
Over 1,000 prominent women leaders from 63 countries gathered in May to discuss topics related to gender equality, strategies for advancing the role of women, and European and global trends. Keynote speakers included high-ranking women in politics, business and NGOs from around the world, who shared their experiences with the audience.
Bulgaria was represented at the conference by Boryana Manolova and Darina Stoyanova, board member of the Council of Women in Business and CEO of Prestige 96. They presented a trophy of a nestinar dancer and a certificate of honorary membership for Dilma Rousseff to Eleonora Menicucci, Brazil’s Minister of Public Policies for Women. The award was accepted warmly by Ms. Menicucci, who invited the Council to join the organization as an international partner.
“For us, the chance to join the Global Summit of Women enables us to keep on track,” said Ms. Boryana Manolova. “We were able to establish contacts with representatives of similar organizations from Brazil, Canada, Poland, Egypt, Qatar, Vietnam, Japan, Kosovo, South Africa, and others, and to exchange valuable experiences on effective strategies to address the problems faced by women all over the world,” she said further.
Forum participants agreed that the role of women throughout business, politics and society will inevitably continue to expand in coming years as more and more companies and countries are discovering the huge potential of women as an economic and leadership force.
At a special ceremony, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women, received the Global Women’s Leadership Award.
The Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria plans to attend the next conference in Poland in 2016.
